Binance Finalizes $100 Million Circle Stake and Five-Year USDC Expansion Deal
CIE News ·
Binance has finalized a $100 million equity investment in Circle alongside a five-year commercial agreement to significantly expand the presence of the USDC stablecoin across its platform. The transaction secures an equity stake for Binance through a private placement of Circle's Class A common shares. The initiative targets market share in emerging markets, directly challenging the prevailing dominance of competing stablecoins such as Tether across global trading venues.
Under the terms of the five-year commercial partnership, Binance is expanding its USDC spot trading offerings from 140 pairs to more than 329 pairs. The integration also includes fee discounts on USDC trading pairs and incorporates the stablecoin directly into Binance savings and investment products. The financial arrangement subjects the $100 million equity investment to a two-year share transfer restriction framework, governing the holding period for the acquired Class A common stock.
Following the rollout of initial implementation phases, monthly USDC trading volume on Binance has already exceeded $80 billion. The commercial rollout continues across regions and platforms globally, as Binance integrates the remaining spot trading pairs and savings instruments in accordance with the five-year roadmap established under the bilateral partnership.
