Update to UPDATE: Binance freeze recovers $2.85B after $6.4B hack

Confirmed by official primary sources.

Binance has restored 90% of the $6.36 billion lost in a recent security breach and fully backed 10 major tokens, with customer withdrawals scheduled to reopen on November 1, 2026.

Binance has replenished roughly 90% of the stolen assets, totaling $5.7 billion, and plans to resume user withdrawals on November 1, 2026. As previously reported, an October 29 hot-wallet breach drained an estimated $6.36 billion across multiple blockchains.

According to Binance, 10 primary tokens are now fully backed at 100%: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT), BNB, Solana (SOL), USD Coin (USDC), XRP, USD1, RLUSD, and Zcash (ZEC). The exchange deployed internal corporate treasury funds, excess balances from its Futures Insurance Fund, and a portion of its $1 billion Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) to purchase the necessary replacement assets.

Binance stated that it will absorb the financial losses rather than passing them on to users, using market and over-the-counter purchases to cover the remaining less liquid cryptocurrencies. TRM Labs reported that the original attack traced back to North Korea's state-backed TraderTraitor group, which siphoned billions across 10 blockchains before laundering portions through decentralized protocols.
