Update to UPDATE: Binance hacker moves $293M in stolen XRP to new wallets
Based on reporting by CoinDesk; not yet independently confirmed.
Binance has spent half its SAFU Bitcoin (BTC), about $580 million, pulling the fund below its $800 million refill mark after an earlier breach.
Binance has spent roughly half of the Bitcoin (BTC) held in its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), totaling about $580 million, data shows according to CoinDesk. As previously reported, an attacker recently transferred $293 million in stolen XRP from the exchange following a $6.3 billion to $6.36 billion multi-chain compromise.
The deployment of BTC has reduced the total value of the emergency protection reserve below its $800 million threshold. Under the exchange's internal guidelines, dropping below this level triggers a mandatory replenishment of the reserve.
Binance previously stated that it allocated more than $6.34 billion across corporate reserves and SAFU assets to cover losses from the exploit. As of November 3, 2026, the company has not provided a timeline for refilling the fund.
