CME FedWatch data shows an 81.5% probability that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates by 25 basis points at its December meeting, with an 18.5% chance of holding them steady, KuCoin reported. Looking to January 2027, the tool estimates a 67.1% probability of a cumulative 25-basis-point increase, an 18.7% probability of a cumulative 50-basis-point increase, and a 14.2% chance of unchanged rates.
Despite the tightening outlook, Bitcoin (BTC) gained 3.68% over a 24-hour cycle to reach $80,643.95, while Ethereum (ETH) climbed 6.30% to $2,434.76 on November 5, 2026. The gains followed a rebound on November 4, when crypto.news reported that BTC recovered to about $78,300 after falling to $75,600 following U.S. midterm election results that saw Democrats win control of both congressional chambers.
Market observers noted that macroeconomic policy risks and high Treasury yields are continuing to guide risk appetite. Data shared with crypto.news by trading platform Talos showed that the earlier post-election rebound coincided with Bitcoin's DVOL index declining 6% and the Cboe Volatility Index dropping 10%.
