Bitcoin fell 4% below $83,000 on October 7, 2026, amid rising interest rates and energy market volatility driven by European reserve disputes, according to CoinDesk.

Bitcoin (BTC) dropped 4% to fall below the $83,000 threshold on October 7, 2026, according to CoinDesk. The downward price action coincided with a broader surge in interest rates and heightened market volatility across asset classes.

The decline occurred alongside sharp movements in energy markets on Wednesday. Oil climbed by nearly 2%, while diesel advanced 4% and gasoline gained 3% amid growing scrutiny over European energy stockpile agreements.

Energy commodities had fallen the previous week following claims by President Donald Trump that European nations agreed to release at least 100 million barrels of reserves. A Politico report subsequently indicated that France and Germany are only distributing supplies pledged in March. Germany has released 600,000 tons of a planned 2.65 million tons, while France has released less than half of its 14.6 million barrel pledge.
