UPDATE: Crypto market liquidations top $1B as Bitcoin drops to $80,365

CIE News ·

Crypto liquidations surpassed $1 billion following the release of September FOMC minutes, sending Bitcoin to $80,365 as long positions took the brunt of the sell-off.

Crypto derivatives liquidations surpassed $1 billion over a 24-hour window on October 8, 2026, expanding on an earlier reported tally of $555 million. The broader sell-off deepened after the release of the September FOMC minutes and rising bond yields, pulling Bitcoin (BTC) down by more than 3.4% to an intraday low of $80,365.

According to CoinGlass data reported by CryptoSlate, $930 million of the liquidated positions were longs, representing roughly 88% of all wiped leverage. Traditional pressures amplified the downward slide as the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.305% and Brent crude climbed above $104 a barrel.

Major altcoins also sustained sharp drawdowns during the market flush. Ethereum (ETH) fell 5.3% to $2,432, XRP slipped 6.2%, and Chainlink (LINK) dropped 7.9% to $13.00, breaking through key technical supports across the sector.
