Autheo THEO plunges over 90% after suspected $1.76M bridge exploit on Base

CIE News ·

Autheo's THEO token fell over 90% after an attacker minted millions of unauthorized tokens via Hyperlane bridge infrastructure, stealing roughly $1.76 million in Ether.

Autheo's THEO token dropped more than 90% following a suspected bridge vulnerability on Base that enabled an unauthorized minting and sell-off, crypto.news and cryptotimes.io reported. Blockchain security firm PeckShield found that an attacker minted 19 million unbacked THEO tokens before swapping them for 700.8 ETH, worth approximately $1.76 million, and moving the proceeds to the Ethereum mainnet. The breach reportedly involved Hyperlane Warp Route infrastructure that retained an unrevoked test setting allowing arbitrary cross-chain messages, according to security alerts cited by cryptotimes.io. Autheo stated that its development team is investigating the incident and warned holders not to buy, sell, or bridge THEO.
