Starknet token holders concluded a non-binding vote with 93.52% support to study an exit from Ethereum. The poll authorizes research into a quantum-resistant L1 without launching an immediate migration.
The Starknet community concluded a seven-day non-binding governance poll on October 22, 2026, with 93.52% of voting power supporting research into becoming an independent, quantum-resistant Layer-1 blockchain, according to crypto.news. StarkWare, which authored the initial October 8 proposal, abstained from voting alongside its team, while approximately 3,200 ballots were submitted across participating delegates and STRK holders.
The outcome authorizes technical research rather than an immediate departure from Ethereum. StarkWare noted that current dependencies on Ethereum, including KZG commitments for blob data and elliptic-curve cryptography across bridge messaging, pose post-quantum security risks that could be avoided by controlling the network's own roadmap. Starknet currently operates as an Ethereum Layer-2 network that uses Ethereum for data availability and settlement.
A working group established by StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation is preparing a draft technical whitepaper scheduled for November to address validator consensus, data availability, and security models. Forum discussions confirmed that STRK will remain the native cryptocurrency without a replacement token, and existing bridge connections to Ethereum are expected to remain functional.
