University of Michigan survey data showed rising US consumer inflation expectations, contributing to a risk-off rotation that pushed Bitcoin below the $79,400–$80,000 zone on October 26.

Long-run US consumer inflation expectations climbed to 3.5% from 3.4%, according to survey findings reported on October 26, 2026. The University of Michigan's final October survey also revealed that year-ahead expectations increased to 4.7% from 4.6%, while overall consumer sentiment remained essentially flat at 48 compared to 48.1 in September.

The persistent inflation readings pressured digital asset markets, contributing to a risk-off rotation that caused Bitcoin (BTC) to slip below the $79,400–$80,000 price range. CryptoSlate reported that repeated price shocks risk shifting consumer behavior and complicating future monetary easing by the Federal Reserve.

Survey director Joanne Hsu pointed to 2025 tariff increases and a 2026 energy shock tied to conflict with Iran as key factors elevating household expectations. CryptoSlate noted that while Federal Reserve policymakers in September viewed longer-term expectations as consistent with their 2% target, tighter policy conditions historically reduce investor appetite for crypto assets.
