Limit order

An order to buy or sell at a set price or better. If it cannot be filled at once, it waits in the order book.

Why it matters

A waiting limit order adds liquidity: it is what market orders trade against. It never fills at a worse price than its limit, but it may not fill at all if the price never reaches it.
