Based on reporting by Decrypt; not yet independently confirmed.
Binance CEO Richard Teng stated an estimated $6.3B attack involved multiple breach points beyond a compromised laptop. Deposits have resumed, but withdrawals remain paused.
Binance revealed additional points of breach in its estimated $6.3 billion security exploit, clarifying that the incident extended beyond a single compromised engineer laptop. As previously reported, the exchange had halted transfers after an attacker accessed service containers to carry out unauthorized withdrawals. Binance Chief Executive Officer Richard Teng explained on October 30, 2026, that the intrusion involved a complex process rather than a single action using one person's permissions.
Deposits resumed operating normally on October 30, but withdrawals remain suspended while the platform completes a security revamp of its withdrawal services. Binance noted it found no evidence of any private key leak, and partners have frozen around $3 billion in affected assets. Binance co-founder Yi He pledged that the exchange will cover all losses through its SAFU fund and corporate capital.
The exchange confirmed it is coordinating with law enforcement and blockchain intelligence firms to track the missing assets. Binance committed to publishing a technical post-mortem and an updated Proof of Reserves once its review is finalized.
