Binance reported an estimated $6.3 billion security incident caused by a compromised DevOps laptop. Around $3 billion has been frozen, and Binance plans to cover all losses with company and SAFU reserves.

Binance confirmed an estimated $6.3 billion digital asset theft that began late on October 29, 2026, according to the exchange and reporting by helpnetsecurity.com. An initial inquiry indicated that an intruder compromised a DevOps engineer's computer, accessed an internal service container, and submitted illicit withdrawals across ten networks. Binance stated that no wallet private keys were leaked in the breach.

Blockchain partners and stablecoin issuers, including Tether and Circle, moved swiftly to freeze approximately $3 billion of the stolen funds. Tether froze over 1.567 billion Tether (USDT), while Circle locked more than 800 million USD Coin (USDC). Despite these interventions, the intruder swapped roughly 325 million USDT through decentralized protocols into approximately 122,300 Ether (ETH), investmentnews.com reported.

Binance suspended withdrawals for up to 48 hours to carry out infrastructure security improvements, while deposits continue to function normally. Co-founder Yi He and company representatives confirmed that all customer losses will be reimbursed through the Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and internal corporate funds.
