Israel extradited Israeli-Russian citizen Alexander Block to the United States on October 29, 2026, to face criminal charges over the alleged theft of more than $2.8 million from crypto bridge Nomad, Decrypt reported. Block was transferred to U.S. authorities after exhausting his appeals in Israel following his May 2025 arrest at Ben Gurion Airport, where he was allegedly preparing to flee to Russia.
A federal grand jury in the Northern District of California indicted Block in August 2023 on charges including computer fraud, transporting stolen property, and money laundering, according to court records cited by Decrypt. U.S. authorities allege that Block exploited a flaw in Nomad's smart contracts around August 1, 2022, under the handle Bitlik, taking over $2.8 million in tokens before attempting to negotiate a payout for finding the bug. His initial transactions alerted other users to the vulnerability, resulting in Nomad losing more than $186 million.
