Update to Tether reports $1.5B Q3 profit as excess reserves reach $8B
Based on reporting by BeInCrypto; not yet independently confirmed.
Tether reported a $4.5B operating profit across the first nine months of 2026, while an attestation showed a 29% decline in gold and BTC could erase its reserve cushion.
Tether's reported $4.5 billion net operating profit spans the first nine months of 2026 rather than only the third quarter, according to a reserve attestation published on October 30, 2026. As previously reported, the stablecoin issuer posted a third-quarter profit of $1.5 billion as its excess reserve buffer expanded to nearly $8 billion.
The BDO-audited attestation revealed that Tether generated the $4.5 billion figure from reverse repurchase agreements and yields on $132.4 billion in U.S. Treasury holdings. Total assets reached $191.5 billion, while the company's excess reserve cushion stood at $7.95 billion, Cointelegraph reported.
Tether's reserve buffer is now exceeded by its direct Bitcoin (BTC) holdings, which were valued at $8.37 billion by the end of September 2026. The audit noted that a combined 29% drop in the market value of Tether's gold and BTC holdings would fully erase the remaining reserve buffer.
