Attackers still hold $3.33 billion following the recent security breach at Binance, which drained between $6.3 billion and $6.4 billion across hot wallets. As previously reported, the initial exploit occurred after a DevOps engineer's laptop was compromised, though Binance stated private keys were not leaked. Perpetrators are attempting to swap stolen tokens on decentralized platforms before issuer controls can be applied.
Token issuers have now frozen $2.8 billion in stolen assets, according to Chainalysis. The blacklisted assets include 1.77 billion USDT by Tether, 825 million USDC by Circle, 40.5 million RLUSD by Ripple, and 27.8 million USD1.
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed it has initiated an around-the-clock recovery operation to reclaim the funds. Meanwhile, Binance co-CEO Richard Teng confirmed that withdrawals across 1,447 networks remain suspended while deposits function normally, with the SAFU fund set to cover customer losses.
