Balancer governance passed proposal BIP-928 with 17.23 million votes on September 29, 2026, formalizing a protocol wind-down following a 93.6% decrease in total value locked over the past year, according to The Defiant. A separate community fork proposal, BIP-929, was rejected in the vote. KuCoin reported that liquidity pools will transition to a withdrawal-only mode beginning October 30, 2026, while BAL token holders will be eligible to redeem treasury assets in late May 2027.
