According to Cointelegraph, ESMA has called on EU crypto firms to stop servicing non-MiCA-compliant stablecoins, setting a Jan. 8, 2027, deadline to resolve existing exposures.

The European Securities and Markets Authority has instructed crypto firms in the European Union to discontinue services involving stablecoins that lack compliance with the Markets in Crypto-Assets framework, Cointelegraph reported on October 8, 2026. The regulator established a three-month window, setting a deadline of January 8, 2027, for companies to unwind their existing exposures to unauthorized tokens. The directive is part of the ongoing implementation of crypto regulations across the European Union.
