UPDATE: Ledger confirms hardware implant in reseller devices as losses may top $86M

Ledger confirmed an unauthorized hardware implant was found in devices from a Southeast Asian reseller, with potential losses exceeding $86 million across compromised wallets.

Hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has confirmed that an unauthorized hardware implant was discovered in some of its devices, according to Cointelegraph. The update follows previous reports that the company was investigating suspected thefts tied to Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis, where the cause and loss amounts had not yet been established. Potential losses linked to the tampered units may exceed $86 million across Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tron networks.

Ledger stated that the breach appears to be isolated to the single reseller in the Southeast Asian market, rather than a compromise of its internal wallet technology or infrastructure. The company previously asked CryptoBilis to halt sales and shipments while the inquiry continues. Customers who bought units from the vendor in the past 90 days were advised not to configure them, while those who already activated devices were told to move funds to new wallets with freshly generated recovery phrases.
