A UK High Court claim by software engineer Lewis Barber seeks 324.8 BTC from BitMEX operator HDR Global Trading, challenging 1,053 loss-making trades and alleging deceit.
Software engineer Lewis Barber is seeking the restitution of 324.8 BTC from BitMEX operator HDR Global Trading Limited, targeting 1,053 loss-making trades out of 2,294 total transactions executed between 2018 and 2022. As previously reported when the claim was filed in London, the dispute centers on allegations that BitMEX offered unauthorized derivatives to UK retail investors. According to Decrypt, the challenged Bitcoin (BTC) was valued at £20.4 million, or about $27.2 million, on October 1, 2026. The lawsuit includes an additional claim for damages due to deceit, noting that Barber's solicitors wrote to BitMEX in December 2025 to rescind the trades, while a BitMEX spokesperson told The Guardian that no claim has been served.
