Crypto short liquidations reach $58M as Fed comments steady Bitcoin
CIE News ·
Traders saw $58 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum short positions liquidated following remarks from Federal Reserve officials that softened the US dollar index and reduced expectations for an October interest rate hike.
Traders holding short positions in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) absorbed $58 million in liquidations over 24 hours as prices stabilized, according to cryptotimes.io. Market-wide crypto liquidations reached $154.32 million during the period, led by a single $3.95 million BTC short liquidated on Binance. The forced closures followed remarks from Federal Reserve officials that softened the U.S. Dollar Index during the late Asian and early European sessions on October 14, 2026.
New York Fed President John Williams indicated that disinflationary forces are present and projected no interest rate hikes for 2027, while Fed Governor Christopher Waller pointed to the tightening impact of elevated Treasury bond yields. Following the statements, market-implied odds for a rate hike at the October 27–28 Federal Open Market Committee meeting dropped to between 20% and 25%.
BTC climbed from an intraday low of $82,919 to hover near $83,500, according to crypto.news. Derivatives data reported by cryptotimes.io showed BTC short liquidations totaled $25.45 million, while ETH short liquidations accounted for $15.76 million, reversing the long-dominated liquidation trend seen earlier in the week.
