Around $483 million in BTC and ETH futures positions were liquidated over 24 hours as market prices fell, with ETH contracts bearing roughly $286 million of the losses.
Nearly $483 million in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) futures positions were liquidated over a 24-hour window ending on October 15, 2026, CoinDesk reported. The downturn coincided with growing market hesitation surrounding upcoming interest-rate choices by the Federal Reserve. Liquidations happen when market moves exhaust borrowed collateral, prompting derivatives exchanges to close bets automatically.
ETH positions took the heaviest toll, accounting for about $286 million in liquidations as the token slipped more than 6% to roughly $2,350. By comparison, BTC futures recorded $197 million in forced closures while the asset lost approximately 3% to trade near $81,000. Open interest totaled about $30 billion in ETH contracts compared to $52 billion in BTC contracts.
The decline also prompted forced closures in other assets. Solana (SOL) futures saw around $31 million in liquidations as the price fell roughly 5.5%, while Zcash (ZEC) positions added nearly $19 million in liquidations alongside a 13% drop.
