The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand finalized 11 regulatory notifications for domestic spot crypto exchange-traded funds on October 15, 2026, with the rules scheduled to take effect on October 16, 2026, crypto.news and coingeek.com reported. Products are restricted to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) during the initial phase and will list exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
Under the framework, funds must maintain at least 80% net exposure to a single underlying cryptocurrency across each accounting year. Digital assets held by the funds must be stored with SEC-supervised custodians licensed in Thailand. Brokerages are prohibited from issuing margin loans for the ETFs, and retail investors are barred from accessing foreign crypto ETFs through local securities firms.
While the regulations take effect on October 16, 2026, individual funds will not begin trading immediately. Asset managers must first submit applications and demonstrate compliant operations, qualified personnel, and licensed custody partnerships.
