Card-issuing platform Marqeta announced a collaboration with cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase on October 16, 2026, to launch stablecoin-backed payment cards. According to a company announcement reported by the Financial Times, the cards will allow both crypto-native and non-crypto businesses to let users spend stablecoin balances at standard card-accepting merchants worldwide.

Under the partnership, Coinbase will manage stablecoin custody and real-time conversions between digital assets and fiat currencies. Settlement will occur over Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network, Base, while Marqeta handles payment processing, card issuance, and relationships with banks and payment networks.
