Solana plans to roll out its Alpenglow upgrade on Wednesday at epoch 1064, aiming to cut transaction finality to 150 milliseconds and reduce validator fees, CoinDesk reported.
The Solana network is set to activate its Alpenglow upgrade on Wednesday, CoinDesk reported. The overhaul is designed to replace the voting architecture used since 2020 by moving validator voting off-chain and packaging votes into certificates, with the goal of reducing settlement finality from approximately six seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds.
The activation is scheduled for the start of epoch 1064 at slot 459,653,000 following a 5,000-slot transition window, according to CoinDesk. The upgrade eliminates onchain voting fees, which previously cost validators around 2 SOL daily, in exchange for a flat validator admission ticket fee of 0.8 SOL per epoch lasting about 24 hours.
The test network underwent six full restarts since May, including a failed migration that required a rollback before a subsequent test run succeeded, CoinDesk reported based on a post from validator operator Galaxy Digital.
