Andreessen Horowitz is rebranding its crypto fund as a16z Frontier, according to Decrypt. The fund is expanding its focus beyond crypto to include artificial intelligence, autonomous machines, and biology.

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz is rebranding its dedicated crypto fund as a16z Frontier and expanding its investment scope, Decrypt reported on October 23, 2026. The new mandate covers artificial intelligence, autonomous machines, and biology alongside digital assets. Chris Dixon, who has led the crypto team since 2018, is co-leading the fund alongside Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, Eddy Lazzarin, and Guy Wuollet.

The firm described the shift as an expansion rather than an exit from digital assets, noting that it will continue investing in crypto projects. In particular, the fund plans to focus on digital assets that enable payments between autonomous artificial intelligence agents. The vehicle's most recent disclosed capital pool was $2.2 billion, announced in May 2026.
