UPDATE: BEA reports 3.4% headline PCE and 2.2% Q2 GDP growth

CIE News ·

Updated BEA data shows August headline PCE inflation at 3.4% year-over-year, alongside 2.2% finalized Q2 GDP growth and a 0.6% rise in consumer spending.

As previously reported, Bitcoin (BTC) gained ground following the release of August inflation figures. Official data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis has now confirmed headline PCE inflation reached 3.4% year-over-year in August 2026. The release also finalized Q2 2026 annualized GDP growth at 2.2% and showed that inflation-adjusted consumer spending climbed by 0.6% during the month.

According to KuCoin, the PCE price index serves as the Federal Reserve's primary gauge of inflation, directly guiding future monetary policy and interest-rate decisions. The broader report follows earlier prints indicating core PCE increased by 0.2% month-over-month and 3.0% year-over-year, which helped trigger a risk-on rally that pushed Bitcoin (BTC) up roughly 1% to $84,750 on September 30, 2026.

Treasury yields pulled back following the data release, with the 10-year yield falling 4.2 basis points to 5.218% and the 2-year yield declining 2.1 basis points to 4.868%. KuCoin noted that market participants will continue watching subsequent Federal Reserve communications and Treasury yields to assess whether the shift in interest-rate expectations persists.
