Bitcoin climbed to $86,771 on October 5, 2026, triggering $190 million in derivatives liquidations as total crypto market capitalization hit $2.99 trillion.

Bitcoin (BTC) rose from a low of $85,552 to touch $86,771 between late October 4 and early October 5, 2026 UTC, before settling between $86,536 and $86,721. Tradingkey.com reported BTC traded at $86,721.22, marking a 1.08% to 1.40% 24-hour gain and pushing the total cryptocurrency market capitalization to $2.99 trillion with BTC dominance at 56.9%.

The price movement triggered $190 million in liquidations across derivatives exchanges over a 24-hour window, according to CoinGlass metrics. Leveraged long positions accounted for $107 million of that total. During the same period, BTC open interest expanded by 2.39%, and the derivatives long-to-short ratio shifted toward a neutral balance.

Tradingkey.com attributed the market strength to persistent spot ETF inflows, easing treasury yields, and forced short covering after BTC cleared overhead resistance levels. Bitcoin.com News previously noted that aggregate market capitalization had dipped to $2.95 trillion late in September before staging a weekend recovery to $85,500.
