Ethereum staking exit queue hits 2026 high with 786,000 ETH waiting

CIE News ·

Around 786,000 ETH was waiting in Ethereum's staking exit queue on Oct. 5, facing a nearly 14-day wait after MetaMask pulled validators following a security incident.

Ethereum (ETH) staking exit queues climbed to their longest levels of 2026, with roughly 786,000 ETH waiting to exit as of Oct. 5, CoinDesk reported. The surge followed an incident disclosed by MetaMask on Sept. 30, which led the wallet provider to begin taking validators offline, although it reported no customer funds or wallets were affected. Because the network caps validator exits at about 57,600 ETH per day, the expected withdrawal wait reached nearly 14 days. Lido stated that it expects the last affected MetaMask validators to stop staking by Oct. 7 before their tokens are eventually restaked.
