Crypto liquidations reach up to $700 million after Federal Reserve minutes
CIE News ·
The release of FOMC minutes on October 7, 2026, sparked up to $700 million in liquidations as Bitcoin fell to between $83,716 and $84,000 amid rising Treasury yields.
The Federal Reserve released minutes from its September 15–16 meeting on October 7, 2026, at 18:00 UTC, triggering between $547 million and $700 million in digital asset liquidations across Binance and Hyperliquid. Total cryptocurrency market capitalization dropped 3% to 3.3% down to approximately $2.85 trillion to $2.86 trillion. The selloff coincided with climbing bond yields, as the 10-year Treasury yield exceeded 5.30%, the 30-year yield approached 5.69%, and Brent crude climbed above $101 per barrel.
Bitcoin (BTC) dropped more than $2,200 to reach lows between $83,716 and $84,000 following the macroeconomic release. Ethereum (ETH) slid 3.9% below $2,600, while HYPE declined 3.5% to 4.2% to $87.20. ETH faced additional pressure after recording six consecutive days of spot exchange-traded fund net outflows exceeding $201 million in total.
Decentralized finance tokens experienced steep pullbacks during the broader deleveraging event. According to CoinMarketCap, Uniswap (UNI) dropped nearly 9% alongside declines in Lido (LDO), PancakeSwap (CAKE), and Pendle (PENDLE), driven by market-wide liquidations rather than token-specific developments.
