RippleX patched critical XRP Ledger minting bug, BeInCrypto reported

CIE News ·

Security researchers uncovered an integer-overflow bug in XRP Ledger that could have enabled illicit XRP minting, prompting RippleX to deploy an emergency patch, according to BeInCrypto.

Security researchers disclosed a critical integer-overflow vulnerability in XRP Ledger payment software affecting xrpld version 3.4.0 and earlier, BeInCrypto reported. Discovered on September 22, 2026, by Cayden Liao and Veria AI, the flaw allowed an attacker to create hundreds of low-value cross-currency trade offers to overflow an internal counter and potentially mint free XRP. RippleX deployed an emergency software patch that bypassed the standard 80% validator governance vote. RippleX confirmed that no illicit minting occurred and zero XRP tokens were stolen prior to the fix.
