Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis President Alberto Musalem stated on October 9, 2026, that benchmark U.S. interest rates will likely need to increase over the next 6 to 9 months to bring inflation down to the 2% goal within 18 months. Musalem did not commit to an immediate rate adjustment for the October 27–28 FOMC meeting.
