AI agents have processed over 138 million micro-transactions via the x402 protocol on Base, with U.S. wallets driving 88.1% of identified inference payments, according to Chainalysis.
AI agents have executed more than 138 million transactions through the x402 protocol on Coinbase's Base blockchain, CoinDesk reported, citing a study by Chainalysis. The analytics firm found that U.S.-linked wallets accounted for 88.1% of geographically identified payments made for AI model inference, whereas Chinese-linked wallets represented 0.1%.
The majority of agentic commerce consists of micro-payments. Chainalysis reported that over 87% of analyzed x402 transactions were valued between one-hundredth of a cent and 10 cents. During July, the protocol handled roughly 75 million payments totaling $24 million over a 30-day window.
CoinDesk reported that the time between a wallet receiving initial funds and making its first x402 transaction dropped from an average of 73 days in late 2025 to 18 minutes in the third quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, Chinese-linked wallets made up approximately 90% of identified payments for security and code-analysis services, primarily directed to the smart contract auditing platform AgentLisa.
