Kalshi CEO warns state regulation would force prediction markets offshore

Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour said state-level oversight would drive prediction markets offshore, defending federal CFTC regulation and dismissing claims of inflated trading volumes, CoinDesk reported.
Kalshi Chief Executive Officer Tarek Mansour stated at the DC Fintech Week event that state-level oversight would force the U.S. prediction market industry offshore, according to CoinDesk. Mansour said federal supervision under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is essential, arguing that sports-related event contracts carry economic consequences that fit commodity definitions under the Commodity Exchange Act. With federal appellate courts split over whether states or the CFTC hold authority, New Jersey has petitioned the Supreme Court to intervene. Mansour also denied social media allegations of inflated trading volumes in perpetual futures, attributing recurring trade sizes to fixed-size orders placed by market makers.
