Polymarket evaluates token launch alongside traditional equity path

CIE News ·

Polymarket is weighing a potential native token against traditional equity financing, though the platform confirmed it has not announced an airdrop or token generation event.

Polymarket is evaluating whether to pursue a native cryptocurrency token or follow a traditional equity route that could include an initial public offering, cryptobriefing.com reported. Speaking at TOKEN2049 in Singapore on October 7, 2026, CEO Shayne Coplan discussed the possibility of an onchain asset with programmable utility tied to the platform's financial ecosystem. However, Polymarket stated that it has not announced plans for an airdrop or a token generation event, and Coplan did not confirm any specific launch timeline or allocation mechanics.

The consideration comes amid substantial growth for the prediction platform, which secured institutional backing from Intercontinental Exchange, according to crypto.news. Following earlier investments, negotiations in August 2026 hinted at a valuation exceeding $20 billion, cryptobriefing.com reported. The platform has also developed its regulatory footprint in the United States by acquiring QCEX to operate under Commodity Futures Trading Commission oversight and launching Polymarket US.
