Update to SEC ends comment period for proposed Regulation Crypto Assets
Based on an official regulatory or court document.
The SEC extended public comments for Regulation Crypto Assets past the October 20 deadline as Ripple CLO Stuart Alderoty submitted feedback supporting the framework.
The SEC confirmed on October 21, 2026, that it is extending the public comment window past the initial October 20 deadline for its proposed Regulation Crypto Assets framework. As previously reported, the comment period had been scheduled to conclude on October 20 before the agency decided to continue reviewing industry feedback.
Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty filed a comment letter endorsing the proposed rules, though he warned against creating regulatory distinctions between network-backed and company-backed tokens. The broader proposal, introduced under SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins, creates tailored registration exemptions and a conditional safe harbor allowing tokens to cease being treated as investment contracts once essential managerial efforts stop.
Under the proposed regime, issuers could raise up to $5 million over a four-year window or up to $75 million annually under tiered exemptions requiring principles-based narrative disclosures, with the larger tier also requiring financial statements and ongoing reporting.
