Based on reporting by CoinDesk; not yet independently confirmed.
Bitcoin fell to $79,700 and major altcoins slid amid reports that the U.S. is evacuating Middle East personnel over potential Iranian threats, extending losses after a macro-driven liquidation wave.
Bitcoin (BTC) fell to $79,700, dropping 2.2% over 24 hours, amid reports that the U.S. is evacuating personnel from Middle East embassies and military bases over potential Iranian strikes. The downturn comes after earlier reports of macro-driven liquidations that pushed the asset toward the $80,400 mark.
According to CoinDesk, citing the Wall Street Journal, intelligence indicates that Iranian plans to target U.S. personnel have reached advanced stages. In a Friday memo to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton stated that Iran has substantially increased efforts to target American personnel.
Other major cryptocurrencies experienced steeper downturns, with Ether (ETH), XRP, and Solana (SOL) declining between 3% and 4%. BTC reached its lowest price level in over a month as broader market positioning adjusted to the geopolitical developments.
