Bitcoin fell below $81,000 as core inflation rose to 2.6% and tech shares dropped, with U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs registering $261 million in net outflows, CoinDesk reported.

Bitcoin (BTC) dropped below $81,000 on October 15, declining 2.6% over a 24-hour period, CoinDesk reported. A higher-than-expected U.S. inflation print briefly pushed the token to nearly $84,000 on October 14 before the price slid to around $80,400 early on October 15.

Core inflation rose to 2.6% against a 2.5% forecast, raising expectations of another Federal Reserve interest rate hike at its October 27–28 meeting. Technology equities also weighed on sentiment, with Nasdaq 100 futures sliding 1.2% after Anthropic told prospective investors its revenue grew $16.8 billion in the third quarter, signaling slower growth.

Broader digital asset markets declined alongside Bitcoin. Zcash (ZEC) fell 11% to roughly $1,100, Ether (ETH) dropped 5% to about $2,370, and U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $261 million in net outflows on October 14, according to SoSoValue data.
