Update to Crypto.com and Novig sue Missouri over sports event contracts

Based on reporting by The Block; not yet independently confirmed.

Crypto.com and Novig filed federal lawsuits against Missouri officials to halt sports wagering enforcement and a 10% tax demand following expired cease-and-desist orders.

Crypto.com and Novig have filed federal lawsuits against Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway and state gaming officials seeking judicial injunctions. As previously reported, both firms took legal action against the state regarding sports event trading contracts. The companies are asking the court to block the enforcement of local sports wagering laws and a 10% tax demand on their contracts, according to The Block.

The federal filings came after the expiration of a 30-day cease-and-desist deadline issued by the Attorney General on September 16–17 to six operators, including Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood, and Underdog. Hanaway previously alleged that platforms violated Missouri's 21-year age limit by allowing 18-year-olds to trade.

The lawsuits contend that Missouri has already exhausted its sports betting license quota and improperly targeted the wrong operating entity. Court records show that Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood, and Underdog have not filed lawsuits in Missouri as of October 18, 2026.
